Travel Postcards

Much as people collect postcards from their vacations today this too was something Victorian curio collectors would do. Though these postcards are not the kind you mail like found today, they portray images of foreign cultures and destinations visited. Many of the travel postcard images in our collection are quite obviously staged with photo backdrops and props. Some have also been hand-colored to add depth and realism to an otherwise flat original black and white image.
