Wood Relic
Description:
In ink directly on the wood is written "Out of John Brown's cell, Charleston, Va." This relic is said to have been carved from the wood of John Brown's jail cell. Brown, an uncompromising abolitionist, was wounded and captured in an attack he led on Harpers Ferry on October 16, 1859. He was moved to Charleston where he was later hanged on December 2, 1859.
