The names of some quilt patterns vary by region and by quilter. This quilt was referred to as a "star" pattern by the donor but is also referred to as a Pinwheel, Fly Foot, Dutchman's Puzzle, Good Fortune, Devils Puzzle and Swastika. Examples of this pattern have been found as early as 1830. This blue and white patterned quilt was made for Judd Colwell by his mother Mrs. Samual Colwell in 1897. "Judd 1897" is embroidered in the corner.
