Title:
WOWO Radio Station
Description:
Radio station WOWO was founded in 1925, and became a radio powerhouse that could be heard all over the Midwest, Northeast, and upper southern parts of the United States, and Fort Wayne was known as the Home of WOWO. On 30 April 1952, WOWO relocated to the upper floors of 128 West Washington Boulevard where the "World Famous Fire Escape" weather forecasts began, actually reporting weather conditions from the fire escape ledge. This arch-shaped aluminum sign fits onto a portable microphone used when the station was broadcasting outside of the studio. The same style sign can be seen on the microphone Franklin Delano Roosevelt is using to speak to the people in this photograph taken during a campaign stop in Fort Wayne on 28 October 1944.
