Paperboy Delivery Bag
Description:
Before the use of television, radio and other forms of electronic media to spread information, residents relied on the printed word to stay informed. Many newspapers were printed in Fort Wayne over the years and two newspapers of general circulation remain today. The News Sentinel traces its origins to 1833, when the Sentinel was established as a weekly paper. The Journal Gazette has been a voice for news since 1863. In 1950, the two dailies merged into a joint operating agency, Fort Wayne Newspapers, allowing both to decrease publication costs without giving up ownership and editorial control. The two thriving newspapers make Fort Wayne one of the few remaining "Two Daily Newspaper Towns" in the United States. This canvas Journal Gazette bag was used in the 1960s by Gus Burrell who delivered newspapers in the Kinnaird Avenue area of Fort Wayne.
