IBM Personal Computer
Description:
There are very few people today who could imagine daily life without the use of a personal computer. Today, electronic devices are a necessity not just in homes and businesses, but also in every school classroom. Almost two-thirds of Americans are walking around with personal computers in their pockets! Just thirty years ago the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society received its first computer which was used by the office manager for membership records and office correspondence. The original price for this model in 1981 was $1,565 and included the system unit, a keyboard, and graphics capability. At additional cost, options included a display, a dot matrix printer, two 5-1/4-inch diskette drives, extra memory, and more. In today's currency, this piece of technology would cost over $4,000.
