Berghoff Beer Bottle
Description:
Berghoff Beer Bottle-German

The Berghoff brothers Henry, Herman, Hubert, and Gustav immigrated to Fort Wayne from Dortmund Westphalia Prussia between 1874 and 1883. During the 1870s and 1880s, Fort Wayne saw a huge surge in German immigration. The energetic brothers established the Berghoff Brewing Company in 1887 and built a six-story brewery on Grant Avenue near Washington Boulevard. It quickly became the brew of choice for Fort Wayne's German-Lutheran population.

The family went on to establish a Chicago Restaurant, a soap company, and Henry served as city mayor from 1901 to 1906. When Gustav Berghoff sold Rub-No-More Soap Company in 1927, he founded the Hoff-Brau Company, which was purchased along with the Berghoff Brewery by Falstaff in 1954.

This bottle of "Famous Berghoff Deluxe" dark beer was from the last batch brewed in Fort Wayne in 1954.
